Prior to serving as Bishop Councell’s Canon to the Ordinary, The Reverend Canon Lee Powers served mission churches and parishes in the Dioceses of New Jersey and Central Florida from 1981 to 2004. In each church served, he worked with the Vestries and Stewardship Committees to find creative ways to teach stewardship and plan stimulating, instructive programs. He is also on the faculty of CREDO, teaching finance to clergy and the laity. Preparing for Pentecost: Lay Retreat with Bishop Councell Back by popular demand – a lay retreat with Bishop Councell. This retreat will be a time of prayer, reflection and renewal as we prepare to enter the season of Pentecost. We will explore, in prayer and discussion, Pentecost Sunday, the Holy Spirit, and how, during Pentecost, to bring God closer to you. The retreat will include a celebration of the Eucharist.
Bishop Councell graduated from the University of California, Riverside and from the Episcopal Divinity School. For two years he served as Vicar of Grace, Colton and St. Luke’s, Fontana, California. In 1977, he became the first rector at St. George’s, Riverside, California. In 1986 he was called to the Diocese of Western Massachusetts to serve as Canon to the Ordinary and then in 1995, to be the ninth Rector of The Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, Illinois. In 2003, he was elected the Eleventh Bishop in this diocese. Young Adult Seaside Retreat What does it mean to find and follow a personal calling? How do we distinguish between an authentic calling and the competing, counterfeit voices in our culture? How can we balance the inward listening to our hearts and listening with our hearts to the needs of our world? This retreat offers young adults (ages 18 to 35) time and space to reflect on these vocational questions in an environment of prayer, quiet, and beauty, and in fellowship with other young adults.
The Reverend Gregory Bezilla is Chaplain of the Episcopal Campus Ministry at Rutgers, based at Canterbury House in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He has served as a parish priest and a hospital chaplain. He is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, and Emory University. Clergy Day at the Beach & Fresh Start Party This is a play day at the beach for all clergy and the Annual Fresh Start Party. Its stated agenda is NO agenda, other than to relax and enjoy one another’s company….the exercises of the day include volley ball, hammock snoozing, feasting, laughing and scratching, reading the first “beach-trash” of the season, surf and bay dabbling, boat riding, fishing….you get the idea.

Young and old alike are invited to join us for the 50th anniversary of New Jersey’s Diocesan-wide tradition of gathering for music, dancing, food, and fun! The evening begins with a concert by the renowned recording artist Fran McKendree followed by a big dance (with music for everyone), food, and reception! Fran has worked with Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, and James Taylor, and brings excitement and depth to the stage. Brian Prior, a prominent (and entertaining) leader in The Episcopal Church, will present. Bishop Councell and Bishop Romero will both be there to commemorate the time and the night promises to be unforgettable! Proceeds will go to Trinity Cathedral and the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund.
We are a busier society than ever – juggling an increasing flurry of demands with school, work, sports, friends, family and more. The pressure of making the grade, looking the best, and being in the right group of friends often leaves little room in our lives for God. What does Jesus Christ have to offer us in the midst of the world’s mantra of “the more we have, the better we are”? With our thoughts constantly interrupted by a text message, or a new facebook wall posting, how can we find the time to set it all aside and see what makes life simple? Take time to explore with us life’s struggles and joys with everyday priorities, and bringing God to the center of it all. Join us in the beautiful setting of Camp Lebanon as we honor life together and celebrate Christian community. There will be engaging program, great music, creative worship, fun games, relaxing free time, and more! See you there! CONTACT The
